Kwazulu Natal & Mpumalanga Self Drive
PACKAGE OVERVIEW
Self-drive – discover two of the most popular provinces: KwaZulu-Natal and Mpumalanga. Situated in the east of the country they boast an abundant untouched fauna and flora as well as some of the most beautiful national parks: Hluhluwe-Umfolozi and the Kruger Park. Explore their unique nature in the comfort of private lodges. On the way, see Durban and the kingdom of Swaziland.
Day 1: Johannesburg – Durban
Upon arrival in Durban pick up your vehicle and drive to your hotel. Free time to enjoy Florida road, one of the trendiest avenues.
Day 2 : Durban – Empangeni
After breakfast, drive 2.5 hours to Empangeni via the coastal road. Enjoy lunch at your lodge and an afternoon 4×4 safari in the private game reserve.
Days 3 /4 – St Lucia
Enjoy a morning safari to St Lucia with an estuary cruise, beaches, a Zulu Village visit, and an 8-hour 'bush and beach' trip to Cape Vidal. From November to March, spot sea turtles laying eggs on night excursions.
Day 5 – Hluhluwe Park
Spend the day in the Hluhluwe-Umfolozi Park, the most ancient of South Africa. It shelters more than 84 mammal species, amongst which are the Big 5. Birds and reptile lovers won’t be disappointed either! Exit from the park and road to the Lodge, situated on a private reserve north of Hluhluwe. Night in a Deluxe Safari-tented lodge.
Day 6 – Hluhluwe – Eswatini
In Eswatini, visit the local market and a candle workshop.
Your Guest House is situated in the heart of Summerfields botanical gardens on 96 hectares.
Day 7 – Swaziland – Kruger Park
En route to Kruger Park visit the Swazi cultural village of Matsamo and then enjoy a sunset 4×4 safari. Traditional dinner around the Boma.
Day 8 – Shishangeni Concession / Kruger Park / Hazyview
Early morning 4×4 safari before leaving the lodge. Travel through the National Park towards Hazyview watching game. Stay overnight at a guesthouse.
Day 9 : Panoramic Route – Hazyview
Visit the main sites of the Blyde River Canyon : God’s Window, Bourke’s Luck Potholes and the Three Rondavels. Visit Pilgrim’s Rest, small gold-mining town set back in 1873. Stay overnight at your guesthouse.
WITH EXTENSION MOZAMBIQUE :
Two days to enjoy the beach or take part in non-motorized watersports or picnic on a desert island. Deep sea excursion.
Day 10 : Hazyview – Vilanculos (Mozambique)
Drive to Kruger airport, drop off your vehicle, and fly to Vilanculos (flights only available Tuesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays). Transfer to your lodge by boat or plane, depending on your chosen lodge (Vilanculos, Bazaruto, Benguerra, or San Sebastian).
Days 11 and 12 : Mozambique
Two days by the sea.
Day 13 : Vilanculos – Johannesburg – Departure
Leisure time and transfer to Vilanculos airport. Flight to Johannesburg and Europe late afternoon.
WITH EXTENSION VICTORIA FALLS:
Day 9: Panoramic Route - KMI
Explore Blyde River Canyon's highlights: God’s Window, Bourke’s Luck Potholes, and the Three Rondavels. Overnight in Pilgrim’s Rest, then fly from KMI airport to Johannesburg and transfer to your hotel.
Day 10: Nelspruit - Victoria Falls
Take a mid-morning flight to Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe. Transfer to your hotel and enjoy a Zambezi River sunset cruise. Stay two nights.
Day 11: Victoria Falls
Guided tour of the Falls and rainforest walk. Visit the village and craft center.
Day 12: Victoria Falls / Johannesburg / Departure
Option for a 15-minute helicopter flight over the Falls. Fly back to Johannesburg for your onward connection to Europe.
